The set is a companion to the February 2024 Standard set Murders at Karlov Manor, and the cards will continue to extend the themes and flavor of the set with 30 new cards.

In this article, you’ll find all of the information we currently have available concerning Alchemy: Karlov Manor, including all of the cards that have been revealed so far. This guide will be updated daily as more information is revealed.

Set Details and Overview

Alchemy: Karlov Manor Logo

We snooped around and found evidence of an Alchemy release coming to MTG Arena on March 5. Alchemy: Karlov Manor will be a 30-card set with cards legal in Alchemy, Historic, Timeless, and Brawl formats! Like past Alchemy sets, we will be hosting an Alchemy Premier Draft March 5–12.

Cards in this release will incorporate a new mechanic that’s fitting for the set: incorporate! A card that incorporates adds an additional mandatory mana cost to another card, and that second card gains additional attributes/text. Incorporate perpetually changes that card’s converted mana cost and attributes/text for the rest of that game.

Premier Draft Alchemy: Karlov Manor runs from March 5 to March 12. Due to the introduction of Play Boosters, players draft three packs of MKM, and the Alchemy cards are added in as a new slot, rather than replacing anything. So the boosters for the Alchemy draft will have 14 cards, rather than the 13 in normal MKM draft.

Mechanics

Murders at Karlov Manor mechanics:

  • Incorporate: A card that incorporates adds an additional mandatory mana cost to another card, and that second card gains additional attributes/text. Incorporate perpetually changes that card’s converted mana cost and attributes/text for the rest of that game.
  • Disguise: If a card has disguise, you can cast it face down. Keep its front face hidden so no other player knows what it really is. It becomes a face-down creature spell, which means it’s colorless, it’s 2/2, and it has no name and creature types. It has ward {2} and no other abilities. It also has no mana cost, so it has mana value 0, but to cast it, you pay an alternative cost of {3}.
  • Cloak: If you’re instructed to cloak a card, put that card onto the battlefield face down. It’s a 2/2 colorless creature with no name and no creature types. It has ward {2} but no other abilities. It has no mana cost.
  • Investigate: When you’re told to investigate, you create a Clue token. A Clue token is a colorless artifact token with “{2}, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.” Not only are extra cards always welcome, but some cards in the set have abilities that reward you for sacrificing artifacts.
  • Suspect: If you suspect a creature, that creature picks up a new designation: suspected. A suspected creature has menace and can’t block for as long as it remains suspected.
  • Collect Evidence: Collecting evidence is a cost that you may be asked to pay in a variety of contexts. It can be part of the activation cost of an ability or an additional cost of a spell. It can even be the cost imposed by a ward ability. Each time you’re asked to collect evidence, exile any number of cards from your graveyard with total mana value of the indicated number or greater.
  • Cases: Individual Cases each have three abilities. The top ability is always active. The middle ability, preceded by “to solve,” sets out the conditions under which you can solve the Case. At the beginning of your end step, if the Case is unsolved and if you’ve met the condition described in the middle ability, the Case becomes solved.

Alchemy’s digital-only mechanics:

  • Conjure: Creates cards out of thin air as a digital object that acts just like a normal card would (as compared to tokens).
  • Seek: Cards with this mechanic will have the game randomly choose a card from the library that meets the criteria specified on the card and put it in to your hand.
  • Perpetual: Permanently changes a card’s properties, whether they are in exile, graveyard, hand, or battlefield.
  • Spellbook: Conjure one from among three randomly selected (draft) from a card’s Spellbook.
  • Intensity: Cards with intensity will start with their intensity at a certain value, and the card’s text will include mechanics for perpetually increasing or decreasing its intensity as the game goes on.
  • Boon: Boon is a way to represent delayed triggers, similar to an emblem, but once they trigger, they disappear.
