Mechanics

Wilds of Eldraine mechanics:

  • Role Tokens: In this grand tale, we all have our roles to play. Role tokens are seven new predefined tokens, each one an Aura with enchant creature. Six of them are created by cards in the main set.
  • Bargain: Eldraine can be a strange plane, and sometimes you must come ready to bargain. Bargain is a new ability that allows you to sacrifice an artifact, enchantment, or token as an additional cost to cast a spell. Exciting! You do get something for doing so, of course.
  • Celebration: The Phyrexians are gone! Now’s no time to sleep (Why is everybody asleep?), so let’s celebrate! Celebrate is a new ability word that highlights abilities that care if two or more nonland permanents entered the battlefield under your control during the turn.
  • Adventures: Eldraine is a plane of adventure, so it’s no surprise that adventurer cards make their return. Some permanent cards (mostly creatures, but other permanent types get in on the fun) in the set have their own personal Adventure that occupies the lower left corner of the cards. Adventures have their own name, mana cost, type line, and rules text. Each Adventure is an instant or sorcery.

Alchemy’s digital-only mechanics:

  • Conjure: Creates cards out of thin air as a digital object that acts just like a normal card would (as compared to tokens).
  • Seek: Cards with this mechanic will have the game randomly choose a card from the library that meets the criteria specified on the card and put it in to your hand.
  • Perpetual: Permanently changes a card’s properties, whether they are in exile, graveyard, hand, or battlefield.
  • Spellbook: Conjure one from among three randomly selected (draft) from a card’s Spellbook.
  • Intensity: Cards with intensity will start with their intensity at a certain value, and the card’s text will include mechanics for perpetually increasing or decreasing its intensity as the game goes on.
  • Boon: Boon is a way to represent delayed triggers, similar to an emblem, but once they trigger, they disappear.
