Hey everyone! We’re all on the edge of our seats awaiting the newest set to hit Arena on Tuesday. Look guys, I could either make another terrible dad joke reference about space or I can just get on with the article. I will spare your sanity (just this once) and do the thing. Today we’ll be talking about the different limited archetypes of Edge of Eternities draft while providing archetype skeletons to check out.
For those of you unfamiliar with archetype skeletons, it is an example deck built under specific restrictions to provide an example of what a “good” deck would be. The aim is to build one that could trophy, but is far from guaranteed to. This shows you some key cards/synergies that you should be aiming for when building one. They aren’t meant to be busted versions, because those tend to build and play themselves.
The restrictions that we are working with are zero mythics, two rares, up to 5 uncommons (limited to one copy each), and not more than 2 of any particular common.
For simplicities sake, we are going to be keeping the mana bases static here. They will be eight of each basic and a Command Bridge. I am well aware that this might not be the proper ratio for some of these decks so please don’t message me about this.
This is the double spell deck. That’s typically been a good limited mechanic because it gives you bonuses for what you wanted to be doing anyway. Step one: Cast a spell. Step 2: Cast a spell. Step 3: Profit.
Orzhov is planning to go wide instead of having its typical aristocrats sacrifice theme. Who am I kidding? It’s still going to be sacrificing others for their own gains with plenty of extra dudes to toss into the bin.
An actual major change in direction is Boros being based around space stations instead of it’s typical beat down plan. You still get to pump out a bunch of dudes, but it’s designed to power up the stations as a side quest first.
Leave it to good old Selesnya to still be kicking it old school here even when it’s counterparts have swerved down a new path. Make a pile of pumped up dudes and bash in their face while hoping you don’t run out of gas before they run out of life.
Izzet a spells deck again? (Am I going to write an original joke for this one, probably not when this one so easily presents itself every set). Nope, this time it is artifact aggro. RAWR!
Rakdos is built around the Void mechanic where you get bonuses if a nonland permanent left the battlefield this turn. In other words, you get extra stuff for killing their stuff (or sacrificing your own). You also get those bonuses if a spell was warped.
