Historic Chimil – Midweek Magic Event Guide and Best Decklists
This guide will contain everything you need to know about the Midweek Magic: Historic Chimil event, including rewards and our exclusive sample decklists.
Hey everyone! According to my trusty calendar (lets be honest, I checked my phone like every normal person) we are about to hit the middle of another week. I know you’re all excited for that because it means it is once again time for another Midweek Magic. Oh, you’re not all really excited about that and you just want me to post the deck lists so you can get out of here… fine, go ahead and scroll down so you don’t have to read the ravings of a madman.
This week we will be playing Historic Chimil which means that at the beginning of your end step you can discover five. It might say six in the official description, but I assume it will be based off of Chimil, the Inner Sun which is five so I’ve built with that in mind.
There are two ways to look at this. The first is that you play normal aggressive decks that happen to get an extra spell every turn. I’ll mainly be focusing on those including with a budget burn option so that everyone can get in on the fun. The other option is to load your deck up with five drops so that you just get to cast an absurd spell every turn. We would be having all kinds of fun if Sneak Attack was legal, but here we are.
You can also play pretty much anything off of the bo1 tier list in this, but try to stick to straight forward decks because you don’t want to hit situational spells.
When the event launched there were some extra cards banned such as Roiling Vortex that aren’t listed anywhere so I’m trying to update the decks with a swiftness.

This will almost always kill your opponent on turn two and it only requires two rares to get the job done. The rest of the deck can be any commons that cost six or more. Make sure you hold full control for your second discover so you can get it off before it passes the turn. Also mulligan any hand that has either Lotus or Belcher in it.
This is what everyone is playing in current historic so I assume you are going to run into a ton of mirror matches with people just queueing this up. You may notice the mainboard Suncleanser, that’s because you want a way to shut down opposing energy decks. You even have the Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot and Goblin Bombardment combo to turn every one of your creatures into a Lava Axe.
I could have called this Pile of Mythics. You’re not even playing any land, just living off of the emblem. A lot of the cards enable you to play other spells for free, set the top of your deck to hit the card you want, or just have some value attached. This is certainly the fun way to play this format, but certainly not the most cost effective.
You basically just want to assemble the combo of Scurry Oak with Heliod, Sun-Crowned or Rosie Cotton of South Lane to make a whole mess of squirrels. You mainly care about getting your combo, but you can also win through the old-fashioned beatdown way. Either axis loves adding an extra piece for the low cost of free because a free CoCo is sick as hell. On top of that, all of the life gain and rapidly growing creatures line up well against the pile of aggressive decks you’ll be running into.
