MTG Arena Announcements: November 14, 2022 – Wildcard Bundles Debut with BRO

Wizards of the Coast published their first weekly Magic: The Gathering Arena announcement bulletin under their new Monday schedule, and it’s the last one before the latest Standard-legal set The Brothers’ War debuts on Arena and Magic Online tomorrow, November 15, 2022. Read on for all the important updates from the Arena team, including information about their updated store page on and premier play schedule for November and December.

Niambi, Beloved Protector Balance Update

With the release of The Bothers’ War, we are removing a combo between Niambi, Beloved Protector and clone effects like Mirror Image. The text “If you cast it” is being added. While this combo was not problematic in competitive settings, it goes against our philosophy of fast, fun, and dynamic games by taking too long to execute.

Previous Card Text:

When Niambi, Beloved Protector enters the battlefield, choose target nonlegendary creature card in your graveyard that was put there from the battlefield this turn. Return it to the battlefield. It perpetually gains “Whenever this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn.”

New Card Text:

When Niambi, Beloved Protector enters the battlefield, if you cast it, choose target nonlegendary creature card in your graveyard that was put there from the battlefield this turn. Return it to the battlefield. It perpetually gains “Whenever this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn.”

The Brothers’ War Arena Store Updates

Starting with The Brothers’ War, you’ll find two new types of Wildcard Bundles in the MTG Arena Store page. Each of these can be bought ten times and will go a long way towards helping you complete your collection in time to build new Constructed decks! You’ll be able to choose between a Rare Wildcard Bundle with 4 Rare Wildcards for $9.99 and a 4x Mythic Rare Wildcard Bundle for $19.99.

The ability to purchase wildcards directly has long been a requested feature from Arena, and this update truly makes the game more flexible and accessible to players, especially those who don’t play a ton of Limited.

The Arena team also noted that the Store will also feature cosmetic bundles for The Brothers’ War beginning tomorrow. They mentioned retro card styles, sticker bundles, and sleeves, but didn’t show off specifics besides the Full-Art Mech Basic Lands we’ve seen before. These gorgeous full-art lands showcase a Terisiaire dominated by gigantic mechanical juggernauts designed by Urza and Mishra during their legendary conflict.

MTG Arena Play Schedule

The bulletin also outlined the Limited and Midweek Magic event schedule on the digital client, starting with The Brothers’ War Phantom Sealed from November 15-18 and including a The Brothers’ War Sealed Arena Open at the end of the month.
