MTG: Arena Announcements, September 15, 2021

Wizards of the Coast has just published this week’s MTG Arena Announcements, and today’s newsletter falls just a day before the release of the next MTG set, Innistrad: Midnight Hunt! We’ll do a quick rundown of all of the main points in the article here, and you can find the full text from Wizards at the bottom of this page.

Bugfixes Continue

With less than 24 hours before the MTG Arena client will be updated with all of the new cards and mechanics from Midnight Hunt, the Arena team is still working to fix all of the issues caused by the backend changes that came along with Jumpstart: Historic Horizons at the end of last month.

In today’s announcements, Wizards has provided an update on some of these ongoing issues and fixes for them:

Thursday’s (September 16) update will bring a few notable fixes::

  • Fix for a bug that caused some players ranking up to Mythic in Limited to enter a bad state where their rank was listed as “Beginner.” Players will no longer enter this state after the update.

We’re hopeful that this also fixes the issue for players already in this state, but this is a very unusual bug that the team has struggled with. If it doesn’t, be assured we will continue to aggressively look for a solution.
  • Fix for a bug that prevented Commander weighting from working properly in Brawl and Historic Brawl.
  • Fix for a bug where the Welcome Bundle was not granting the proper mix of packs. We have done a mass grant to give players affected the proper packs.
  • Fix for a bug that caused players not to receive quest progress from direct/friendly challenges (for real this time).

The team has been working hard to fix bugs since Jumpstart’s release, so hopefully the new update won’t cause too many more problems for the client.

Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Release

Tomorrow, September 16, Innistrad: Midnight Hunt will be available on MTG Arena! We’ve got a ton of new content here on MTGA Zone based on Midnight Hunt, with plenty more on the way after the set releases. Be sure to check out our excellent limited set review by Chris Kvartek and other Midnight Hunt related content. Links below:

New Store Offers

Along with the new set comes a host of new bundles on Arena, including three new stickers for 1,000 gems or 5,000 gold. You will also be able to purchase the full bundle of ten “eternal night” style basic lands for 5,000 gems or 25,000 gold, and all five card styles for the new dual lands in a bundle for 1,00 gems or 5,000 gold. Scroll down to Wizards’ announcement at the bottom of the page for images.

In addition to the eternal night basic lands, there will also be individual eternal night styles that can be purchased through the deckbuilder for 14 creatures from the new set after the set’s release. A full list of these is available below.

Wrapping Up

Finally, Wizards included a reminder for us that the Jumpstart Historic Horizons play event has just one month left until it is removed from the client on October 14. See here for our guides you haven’t gotten a chance to experience the set and want to try the event out for yourself before it’s gone for the foreseeable future.

As usual, Wizards has also posted a fully updated schedule with all of the information that’s currently public about upcoming events on MTG Arena- this can be found at the very bottom of the page. Stay tuned for more Midnight Hunt content, and we’ll be back here in a week for the next announcements bulletin!

Stabilization Progress

The team has made progress on improving stability and eliminating bugs following the update.

We’re continuing work on remaining issues to make sure you have a great experience.

State of the Game: Werewolves and Hatching Green Eggs

The latest State of the Game article is out with a look ahead at the MTG Arena release of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt this Thursday—plus screenshots!

We also talk about the imminent rotation and the goodies you’ll get when your glimmering green renewal egg hatches after the update (like the ten rare/mythic rare individual card rewards from Standard 2022 sets!), and more.

Eternal Night Card Styles Available in Deckbuilder

The following eternal night card styles will be available in the deckbuilder after the release of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt:

These will also be available in a forthcoming event similar to The Yawning Portal event. The event will be held later in the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt season, but we are making them available now for those who can’t wait to get them. Purchasing these styles will result in the duplicate-protection of the event not awarding them to you as event rewards.

One Month Left for Jumpstart: Historic Horizons

Jumpstart: Historic Horizons runs until October 14, so you have just under a month left to play and grab the new cards it introduces to MTG Arena.

If you haven’t played yet, Jumpstart: Historic Horizons offers fun, quick-to-start play with a punch. Pick from themed packet lists to assemble a deck and start playing. Cards included in packets are either new to MTG Arena or use existing card versions available, and cards from your chosen packets will be added to your collection.

Entry is 2,000 gold or 400 gems. Each of your first two wins awards a rare or mythic rare individual card reward (ICR) from Jumpstart: Historic Horizons.

You can play with a deck as long as you like, and when you’re done, you can resign. You can try new packets and decks and earn more ICRs after you resign by paying and rejoining to play again.
