Hi! I am Vertyx, and I would like to welcome you to my Mythic Decks of the Week article for the first week of 2024! I will go over the most interesting decks that made it to Mythic on MTG Arena in the first week of the year! Let’s take a look at all the decks that people reached Mythic with!
With the creatures setting in the playstyle of the deck, the instants and sorceries will naturally do the same. The instants include cards like Lightning Bolt, Searing Blood and Electrostatic Blast so you can remove problematic blockers while also gaining other benefits from them. And the sorceries include a single copy of Thoughtseize and 4 copies of Sign in Blood so you can get some card advantage going while also growing some of your creatures!
Second deck to cover is Alchemy Azorius Tempo by nora!
This deck uses only a few creatures and combines them with a lot of instants and sorceries that work well with them. The creatures include Picklock Prankster as a nice instant card selection spell with a blocker glued to it, Haughty Djinn which not only makes your spells cheaper, but can also make a huge attack if you cast enough of them, and Monastery Mentor which makes you more threats for every non-creature spell you cast!
And as for the non-creature spells. One part are the cards that let you protect your creatures like Shore Up, Tawnos Endures or even Helping Hand. Other big part are the card draw spells which include Sleight of Hand, Chart a Course and Birthday Escape. And then you got other interaction like Reprieve that can get you a “free” turn by bouncing anything that the opponent wanted to cast, and Get Lost since every deck needs a bit of removal.
And the last card that works well in the deck is Founding the Third Path which can grow your Haughty Djinn and also lets you recast spells from your graveyard!
And unfortunately this one is the last deck to cover, and its Explorer Mono-Black Midrange by Kyori58! This deck actually did not reach mythic, but instead it went 6-1 in the qualifier play-in. I decided to chose it since there wasn’t a lot of decks to cover this week.
Instants are the biggest part of the deck and they only include removal spells! They range from some very cheap ones like Fatal Push, but they also include some more expensive ones like Hagra Mauling or Bloodline Culling.
