This week’s of MTG Arena Announcements are mostly reminders of the upcoming events that were covered in the previous weeks, but we do have some further details on the Turf Brawl event that caps off the Rise of the Five Families Festival on starting on May 27.
Currently, the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate spoilers are happening, which you can check out. The associated Alchemy Horizons set is due to be released on MTG Arena on July 7, with 250 cards (some new and rebalanced), and in the meantime we can speculate on what cards will be transferred over!
The quest to earn an invitation to Magic World Championship XXVIII culminates in the New Capenna Championship May 20–22! Top players face off in Standard and Historic competitions for $450,000 in prizes and to determine who gets the remaining invitations to Magic World Championship XXVIII later this year.
Our first Qualifier Play-In event, which can earn you an invitation to this month’s Qualifier Weekend, is set for May 21! Compete in Best-of-One Phantom Streets of New Capenna Sealed matches for prizes and reach six wins for an invitation to the May 28–29 Qualifier Weekend!

NEXT PLAY-IN EVENT: MAY 27
Following the first Play-In event (covered above) comes another Play-In event on May 27! This will be a Best-of-Three Phantom Streets of New Capenna Sealed competition with prizes. Get four wins, and you’ll earn an invitation to the May 28–29 Qualifier Weekend!
What’s in these festival events for you? Well, here’s the deal: you can score golden age showcase card styles that’ll prove you’re a big shot and not some chump with a lot of chin music.
Plus, for these events only, as long as you participate in an event, you’ll be granted all card styles for that event—even if you don’t make it to five wins. This is only for the Rise of the Five Families Festival events.
Each event’s format is Alchemy Singleton with Best-of-One matches, but with a unique emblem twist inspired by each family!
Rise of the Cabaretti: May 18–21
Emblem: “Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, scry 1. If this is the second time this ability has resolved this turn, draw a card instead.”
Golden age card styles:
Rise of the Riveteers: May 21–24
Emblem: “Whenever you sacrifice a creature, you may return target creature card with lesser mana value from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.”
Golden age card styles:
Rise of the Brokers: May 24–27
Emblem: “You may cast spells from the top of your library by removing a counter from a creature you control in addition to paying their other costs.”
