Hi! My name is Vertyx and I will go over the top finishes of the Magic Online Standard Challenge that took place on the weekend: June 10, 2023. We are at the second weekend post bans and pilots are still trying to innovate with their list to find the best deck in the format. Lets go take a look at the decks they registered
Top 8 Decks
Similiar to the top 8’s from last weekends Saturday and Sunday challenges we still have a lot of Mono-Red Aggro (3 copies) and Esper Legends (2 copies) which were the decks that emerged to the top post bans since they did not loose any cards and some of their bad matchups got weaker. The other decks in the top 8 were 1 copy of Orzhov Midrange, 1 copy of renovated Rakdos Midrange since it gots its core cards banned and 1 copy of Domain Midrange which combines a midrange gameplan with the strong top end of Domain decks.
Now lets go take a look at the decklists!

First lets go take a look at the Mono-Red Aggro decklists by Coly2 (1st place), AlpInco (7th place) and ElfKid (8th place).
All of the lists are very similar with only small individual card differences. As with every Mono-Red Aggro deck, their core gameplan is to change the opponents life total to 0 as fast as possible. This type of gameplan has been doing well since the bannings which has been often the case with fresh post ban formats.

The second deck i want to take a look at is Esper Legends piloted by KeepAny7vsYou (2nd place) and canepis16 (6th place).
Both of these lists share the same trend of getting less disruptive by cutting Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Skrelv, Defector Mite and upping the count on cards like The Raven Man, Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor, Ao, the Dawn Sky or Toluz, Clever Conductor to be more resilient against matchups that can get more grindy since all of these cards are able to 2 for 1 your opponents by themselves. Both of these decks also registered Steel Seraph which is a strong way to overcome all sorts of boardstates either it being against aggro and giving lifelink to your creature or some stale ones and giving your creatures flying.

Artifacts (1)
Enchantments (9)
Lands (24)

15 Cards

The 3rd place deck was Orzhov Midrange piloted by KarnageKardsENT! This exact pilot top 8ed the Sunday Challenge last week and managed to do that again this week!
The deck’s core is a white midrange deck that utilizes all of the powerful removal spells and planeswalkers to remove all of the opponent’s creatures while chipping away their life total with creatures that already provide additional value to the pilot! The reason this deck is in Orzhov colors is Breach the Multiverse as a strong top end! This deck loses its card advantage engine in the form of Reckoner Bankbuster 2 weeks ago but still manages to put up strong results.

Enchantments (4)
Lands (27)
60 Cards
$712.58
Sideboard
15 Cards
$27.17
The 4th place deck was Domain Midrange piloted by Rex_Iudex!
This deck combines a midrange gameplan with a strong top end that the Domain decks provide! It starts as a Golgari based midrange deck with cards like Briarbridge Tracker, Graveyard Trespasser or Go for the Throat and later in the game takes advantage of its 5 color manabase with Herd Migration or Atraxa, Grand Unifier.
This space of a midrange deck with a top end like the Domain Ramp decks have has not been explored much and it looks like an interesting type of deck to try going forward!
Creatures (18)
Sorceries (2)
Enchantments (2)
Lands (25)
60 Cards
$577.08
Sideboard
15 Cards
$39.61
And the last deck to take a look at is Rakdos Midrange piloted by MTGHolic!
The ban announcement 2 weeks ago has banned 3 of the core cards from Rakdos Midrange so it meant the deck had to get rebuilt without those cards. One of those cards was Reckoner Bankbuster which was the core way of getting card advantage. It was replaced by 2 copies of Phyrexian Arena which serves the same role! The 2 other cards were Invoke Despair and Fable of the Mirror-Breaker which are cards that are really hard to replace in Standard because of how powerful they are. The pilot chose to register Sheoldred // The True Scriptures, Vraska, Betrayal's Sting and Liliana of the Veil as all of these provide a strong threat that has to be answered while also 2 for 1-ing your opponent like Fable of the Mirror-Breaker did. Aside from that, the gameplan of the deck stays the same.
Not a lot has changed since the last week with Esper Legends and Mono-Red Aggro still being the decks to beat in the format right now so if you are planning to attend a Standard tournament be prepared to face these decks! Thanks for reading this article and I hope you liked!
