Greetings Ladies, Gentlemen and Kavus!, Code_Halcyon here with another dosis of MTG Top 8 Analysis in Standard Constructed format Metagame, we are doing an extensive review today from Ultimate Guard Open Prague, Fanfinity at Prague (Czech Republic), the current podium fighters at the standard constructed best of 3 metagame, go from Izzet Spellementals, Mono green Landfall and their color splashed variations, and Azorious Momo archetype pursuers.
Izzet archetypes overall seem to be diminishing as other archetypes are centering into exploiting their weakness, that’s where Mono Green shines the most with Badgermole Cub this Cub is able to bring more resources early and Izzet is forced into lead the defense and resolve the table while not realizing that is just delaying the inevitable, Izzet decks get thrown into a difficult spot trying to win the match while also dealing with defending even if the Eddymurk Crab hits play, the Green player always has a chance to rebuild and come out stronger, Brightglass Gearhulk guarantess playing a card from the deck that will solve an specific threat from the battlefield.
So let’s jump into this MTG Top 8 Analysis Prague edition, packed with a lot of Green here, at Prague 31/05/2026 for a total of 291 players contesting this Top 8 contenders shine.
5th-8th
Selesnya Aggro – Liam Tiller-Collins
Selesnya Aggro, our first appearance of Badgermole Cub doing its thing, Cub centered decks want to get more early resources mana available to drop 4th turn threats and a well developed boardstate to finalize the game, often starts with Gene Pollinator and 4 copies of Llanowar Elves there aren’t enough mana dorks in this deck apparantly, but the reality is this, Cub is too stronk, IYKYK, memes aside, this deck wants to end turn 3 with 4 semi-powered creatures to made a stop for whatever threat the opponent is building up, Spellementals stop attacks as they need to focus on removing these creatures specially the Cub, and it ends up being a lightning rod, and when that happens this deck still has options for attacks, so every matchup against this deck needs to recalculate mid game strategy every single time this happens, the only deck archetypes that easily prepare for this matchup is reanimator and Jeskai revelation and those have been downhill since the other Simic variations of the cub running some much needed Counterspells, yes you can believe your eyes Code is saying Counterspells are necessary for the meta and for that reason only, eaerly stops of the cub hitting the field is a huge delay for this decks, but not enough for Liam to reach Top 8 with this version of Selesnya Aggro.
Second appearance of Badgermole Cub this time is mono Green turn no color splashes, this deck wants Land recursion and Landfall triggers, Sazh's Chocobo plus Esper Origins for a classical boardstate development, Chocobo will enter field plain 1/1 and over the next few turns is going to get over powered by Landfall triggers, which will turn it into a big lightning rod catching spells, but that’s not the end of the deal Icetill Explorer and Mightform Harmonizer with the doubling power Landfall triggers, this deck will roll out a threat every two turns, and it’s not going to be fun fighting against a 10/10 Chocobo, nor a Summon: Esper Maduin being 16/16 by just 2 landfall triggers coming from the Mightform Harmonizer.
Izzet first Appearance in our list today, the only creature in this deck is of course Gran-Gran getting to cheap out non-creature spells once three or more lessons hit the graveyard, almost every card in this deck is a Lesson type of spell, running 4 copies It'll Quench Ya! is basically the new Mana Leak, this is the first time I see Tablet of Discovery in this archetype but I know what happens, this card turns into a mana rock and on the turn is played, it adds mana cheaply so it kinda pays for itself, but wait 4 copies of Jeskai Revelation this was a Jeskai Revelation deck all along? “It always has been”-, come on haven’t you heard if you can’t beat them, join them?-, well this is exactly that Izzet Lessons transitions into Jeskai Revelation, with 5 big effects packed into this card, bounce a card to hand, deal 4 damage, create 2 monk 1/1 with prowess, draw 2 cards, and gain 4 life. so yeah lessons into Jeskai next big hit coming to cinemas near you.
Now that the previous meme era is over a proper Jeskai Revelation is here, what I like the most of this version is the Inevitable Defeat, and the inclusion of Flashback, this deck looks for more Opportunity rather than Certainty that its often offered by blue spells, Three Steps Ahead an only copy, Consult the Star Charts and 4 Stock Up just to make the topdecking efforts into engineering the top deck for a win, No More Lies just to make it enough for the counterspell efforts for the match.
This is kinda the midrange deck wants to cover everything at the right time, Day of Judgment is the evidence for this, this is a version I really like for this archetype, looking for more opportunity with more pressure controlling permanents rather than fighting in the stack.
And obviously the grandeour of all things Jeskai Revelation drops the monks deals 4 damage and bounces a spell or permanent back into the opponents hand, draws two cards and gain 4 life, quite the big effect at costly 7 mana, but the whole deck revolves around guaranteeing the 7th turn and mana available for it.
Mono Green second appearance today in our list, simple creatures 5, Sazh's Chocobo, Llanowar Elves, Badgermole Cub, Mightform Harmonizer and lastly Icetill Explorer, the only difference is the 4 copies of Earthbender Ascension and I always emphasize with this card the trample source effect, having trample completely changes the combat dynamic it’s either unblockable or the opponent will put all the creatures in front of the trample creature just to block once the damage and completely erradicate that creature, so having a card effect that will give trample to any creature per turn.
Our First Izzet Spellementals, so what I was talking about earlier Eddymurk Crab and Sunderflock will control the late game but to get there, Sleight of Hand and Impractical Joke makes sure to erradicate lightning rods and by that I mean critical pieces for the opponents, Prismari Charm and Traumatic Critique to transit the mid game onwards, this deck wants to eliminate everything on board until the Crab and Sunderflock are playable.
Spell Pierce and Spell Snare in the counterspell efforts will help diminish and let the terror creep into your opponent’s mind, and my favorite card in all of standard right now is Burst Lightning for the optimal damage on the late game.
Azorius in this list is the right note, this deck wants to starlight Momo, Friendly Flier with Sage of the Skies two Sages will enter and give Momo +3/+3 this will get enhanced greatly both for offense and defense, this deck seems to be slow but it isn’t, Haliya, Guided by light and Quantum Riddler are drawing efforts while the riddler is a flying creature that is able to power up Momo, same as the badgermole cub Momo ends up being a lightning rod, and let the other half of the deck do its thing and win the game, Aang, Swift Savior is just the cherry on top for the mid game development, Daydream is a key card here, that diminishes removel effects as creatures blink for protection while triggering other creature ETB effects.
Selesnya Landfall ladies and gentlemen, the greatest of our list features a Badgermole Cub that self targets with Erode for more lands, Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgalm that transitions earthbent lands into 2/2 tokens by removing counters from lands and they return the battlefield tapped while also triggering landfall effects, with your usual suspects of Icetill Explorer and Mightform Harmonizer, this deck is fast, as this archetype is, Snakeskin Veil protects creatures, Bushwhack is an excellent card that either fetches a land or makes your creature fight with the hopes of removing another creature from the other side.
Earthbender Ascension I believe is the key for success here, getting a trample source in while the creatures are going out either by removal or combat and having a steady progression in damage for your opponent to turn in defense mode equals winning.
Badgermole Cub is an interesting creature and not only in Standard format, what we see here is the culmination of Izzet fading out in effort and a more green like meta for all, even if its just all Landfall triggers, I am certain this brings more space for decks like Momo to shine that are equally fast and protective of their creature, and while Jeskai is still active trying to consolidate their spot in Standard.
I am putting my money that the next few sets will focus into Midrange effectiveness as we have right now this really quick and fast decks, probably in Marvel Super Heroes we will see more variations in effects for everything that is cost 4 or more, until then protect your spells from counterspells as they are bad for your health, Code is out!
