Standard metagame is on a tight spot with Vivi Ornitier dominating the scene and the long awaited ban updates upcoming November 10th, in this article I will cover the Metagame current state.
Vivi Ornitier Soul Cauldron
This deck excels at both an easy and recurrent setup with both Vivi Ornitier and Agatha's Soul Cauldron recycling abilities either from graveyard, so universally all the abilities end up in the battlefield, the cauldron is a great enabler for any creature, this deck has many offensive options, both Proft's Eidetic Memory and Marauding Mako are early game alternatives that are draw enablers or damage options, this archetype is highly explosive and good at managing a new setup in case of removals.
This deck is a big puncher, couple of creatures flare out by turn three, and if Llanowar Elves is in play, surprise Ouroboroid Plant Wurm hits play, and buffs creatures in that combat, and by next turn you are probably dead already, so you ideally confronting this deck, is keeping calm, and preparing an instant removal for the Ouroboroid take damage on the early critters, but eventually giving you an opening for your own setup to thrive and win.
This version of Dimir control focuses on diminishing opponents opportunities in the early turns, and guarantee the middle game grounds, to setup Oildeep Gearhulk as pressure, with a couple of removal options, and staging the cast for Singularity Rupture, which later turn on the Riverchurn Monument for a Mill Win.
Sideboard deals with more hand control and topdecking robbery with Outrageous Robbery and hitting the opponent with their own cards, and Nowhere to Run eliminating the Ward and Hexproof effects for easier removal tactics.
This is a refreshing archetype to stumble upon on Standard, this deck runs for a cheat in play effects with Devastating Onslaught copying Railway Brawler and mana sources with your typical standard green available mana dorks, Esper Origins brings some top decking options as well a flip option that brings more mana to spellcasting.
Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius brings flexibility into Plotting spells, and Temur Battlecarrier brings more discounts into mana costs, this deck might seems a bit slow at first glance but with a strong mid game, you haven’t seen what 4 copies of Railway Brawler with haste does to a man’s sanity.
This brew is getting more traction in standard, Jeskai + Black colors which ends up being no green, with a basic premise of control, Counterspells? -a lot. Removals? -plenty. and whatever survives, there’s always the Jeskai Revelation fixing the board state and ditching extra blockers just in case, or extra attackers with prowess, however you want to see it, this deck is synonym of surgical skill on the stack, either removing or countering spells, and resetting the board when needed.
Simple mechanics where a Land hits play and creatures powers go up or double as is the case for both Tifa Lockhart and Mossborn Hydra, Bristly Bill is quite the pressure on the board pumping up further creatures for attack, but the real deal of this deck is the Icetill Explorer giving further use for lands in the gravetyard making additional Landfall triggers, this is a fast deck believe it or not, able to put pressure fast with 2 or 3 creatures on the battlefield, even a turn 2 Surrak, Elusive Hunter is possible.
The current metagame outside from Vivi Ornitier is quite good, but isn’t able to further explode and evolve because everybody is currently trying to deal with the Vivi archetype so much, is either be Villain or become Villain by playing Vivi, Red deck wins archetypes are the outliers in the events standings, as it seems you use Fire to fight Fire, but anyways, there are plenty of archetypes left to name, so expect a part 2 or latest metagame decks present in standard, and until the next one stay away from counterspells they are bad for your health, Code is out!
