Hey everyone! It looks like we’re heading into the middle of another week and you all know what that means. That’s right, I’m going to Disney World! Oh, that’s just a normal occurrence for me here and I guess that’s not really relevant to you guys. In that case, it’s time for another Midweek Magic!
Let’s see what the kitchen has been cooking up for us this week. Apparently, it is Phantom Golden Pack Sealed. That is both a mouth full and a crazy adventure that awaits us.
Golden pack sealed opens twelve golden packs full of rares and mythics for you to build a deck out of. If that sounds insane, I can assure you that your assumption is correct. This was originally an April Fools event and they decided to run it back as a normal MWM. There was a lot of mixed feedback from this last time as not all pools are created equal.
I’ll talk about that a bit along with some tips and tricks after the event info.
Event Details
Enjoy this silly, chaotic experience by playing Golden Booster Sealed with twelve packs. Add basic lands to make a 40-card deck, then play against other players as much as you want!
Duration: October 22nd, 2024 @ 2:00 PM PST to October 24th, 2024 @ 2:00 PM PST
Format: Phantom Golden Pack Sealed
Entry Fee: Free
Ends After: You can play as much as you like for the duration of the event.
You have to adjust your evaluations when looking at your pool from the normal limited evaluations. In a way it is similar to cube where more efficient cards and good mana are important. There will typically be plenty of big mana, game shifting cards available so you don’t want to clog up your deck with too many of them.
A good way to put it is to focus more on the crazy efficient three and four mana rares than the big game enders.
Good (and preferably cheap) interaction is at a premium here as well. You don’t have all the common/uncommon ones running around so it can be difficult answering some of the bigger bombs. That means you probably don’t want to shoot your shot just to gain a bit of tempo.
As in most sealed decks or cube formats, counterspells tend to overperform. When everything is busted, trading up on mana seems pretty good.
Per usual, opening a great pool is highly recommended. Last time there were a bunch of pools that were rated OMG and a bunch of unplayable ones full of Leylines and their ilk with no fixing.
Wrap Up
Thanks for reading! I’ll be back next week to talk about Mixed-Up Innistrad Sealed. Until then, stay classy people!
