Hello Ladies, Gentlemen, and Kavus, your friendly neighborhood Code again with an Standard Metagame Report Aetherdrift edition, there has been a rise in different mono red comps ranging from the typical mice archetype and the upcoming goblins which tend to be not as explosive in the early game as the mice, but quite powerful to mid and late game, we are going to be looking to a bit of the different archetypes in standard, and a personal favorite I came by but I going to leave the best for last.
With the release of Burnout Bashtronaut a mighty bet to Star your engines! ability slowly but steady reach the Max Speed and profit of your creatures, Howlsquad Heavy turns into a mana source for a mighty Krenko, Mob Boss and more goblins to appear, but the significant difference goblins have is the Rundvelt Hordemaster topdecking to your needs, you might wipe the board but that will trigger more cards in advantage for goblins and this is the main difference with other mono red archetypes in mind.
Same Mice Hategang different spells, the main reason here to splash white is the protection effects Shardmage's Rescue provides and the removal and aura effects Sheltered by Ghosts provides, you might do some heavy damage on board wipes with Heartfire Hero
Esper Pixies relies heavily on recursion, reusing the same enchants over and over again, how do they do that? well put simply Nurturing Pixie and Fear of Isolation and if not only that, when these creatures attack you can Ninjutsu Kaito, Bane of Nightmares for an additional creature cast and bounce back an enchant again.
On the enchants sides, the forever useful Stormchaser's Talent as creature and recursion source, Hopeless Nightmare discard and damage source, yeah all that for one black mana, and lastly a removal source Nowhere to Run.
Dimir Aggro on a Esper Pixies counterpart, a bit more control and removal even with Gix's Command and something I like to call the Slow Timers Preacher of the Schism slowly but steady might get a draw card in or a critter to the battlefield with Lifelink might not be much but its honest work, this deck specializes in removing all threats and scrathing damage to a win.
This one has been a surprise a slowly but steady White Weenie Angels taking the Meta, Giada, Font of Hope a big time enabler with a mana source for white is big opportunity and to let Giada slide for turns this will output Angels left and right, Perilous Snare will slow everybody else down Steel Seraph will help other critters make the best of combat situations
We couldn’t make this article without mentioning the heavily present Zur Control Overlords, this deck maximizes the Overlords capabilities on turn three and four respectively, and with that Leyline Binding costs only 1 mana, with Up The Beanstalk the early turns, and Temporary Lockdown diminishing the early plays, this deck is all about endgame creature enchantments with Hexproof thanks to Zur, Eternal Schemer and if that’s not all also Lifelink so they can mitigate the early damages and turn back up to health.
Blue White Omniscience Combo, this deck plays defense aiming for a turn 4 Abuelo's Awakening to revive an Omniscience as a 1/1 Flying, but the terrifying issue is Invasion to Archavios which let’s you grab a spell from the sideboard or graveyard, and with Omniscience in play you can play it freely, be it whatever you want, Breach the Multiverse, Season of Weaving, whatever it takes to the win home.
Saving the best for last, I’ve been thinking about this for about some time now, why there isn’t a Fog deck around and I did some digging and there is one! let’s take a look.
Eerie Interference as a fog source, and Aetherize as combat nullification, and Union of the Third Path for mitigation, this deck looks to turtle the game out by stalling everything, even Time Stop is present, Aether Syphon for a draw option with a Mill Wincon in the longrun, and the endgame is to keep the Stormchaser's Talent with some prowess Otters dealing damage every now and then, quite simple yet effective.
Standard metagame seems to be shifting to a more aggro setting despite Omniscience combo making it big time everywhere else its just time that decks adjusts to capitalize on the early turns of the match, I’ve been seeing a lot of brews on Diamond tiers that are catching up my attention half the decks want to do reanimation for a clean win, others want to stall it as much as possible, and there’s mono red making 18 points of damage turn 3, pick your poison.
Until the next one fellas Code out, may your spells never be counterspelled. Ciao!
