The March game update patch has just been released, and over the next few weeks the focus will be again divided into the Standard and Historic format for the ranked season. For this reason, this week’s Mythic deck roundup is a little bit earlier than scheduled and from next week we will have both Standard and Historic decklists to share! We have a brief update on the Standard metagame below, but you can click here to go straight to the decklists!

Standard Metagame Update – March 12, 2020
The week flew past, and Standard is also moving fast. The metagame currently has two primary aggro decks you need to be aware of: Mono Red Aggro and Rakdos Sacrifice. Looking at MagicFest Lyon results from above and combined with the Mythic Point Challenge results, both decks will be the most common ones you see. Gruul Aggro is also changing to become more like Mono Red including more one drops other than Pelt Collector, but still including Questing Beast and Lovestruck Beast. As for the dual color decks, the mana base is the biggest issue here which is why a lot of players are still sticking to Mono Red for consistency.

Temur Reclamation is on the rise again in the ladder, as Jeskai Fires (which is still a good deck) and Azorius Control numbers dwindle. The deck has good matchups against the popular decks of present: Temur Adventures, Rakdos Sacrifice and Nissa decks as it can combo off faster than they can finish you off. We have options for BO1 and BO3 below as well as a primer on it, so if you want to learn the deck then you should start there as it can be a complex deck to play optimally.

Standard seems to be decently balanced at the moment, with different deck archetypes having both strengths and weaknesses against each other. The Nissa ramp decks certainly look the most balanced so far though, and it’s probably the best deck out of them all that does its best going over the top. Mono Red Aggro is still a pesky matchup but inclusion of cards like Shatter the Sky, Elspeth Conquers Death and even a main deck Aether Gust is certainly helping.
Anecdotally speaking, I’ve been continuing the climb slowly in BO3 as time permits but this week primarily through Jeskai Fires. It was a nice even mix between Bant Ramp, Temur Reclamation, Mono Red Aggro and miscellaneous matchups. The deck performed decently against all of them, but it wasn’t amazing either. I will be continuing the climb on Historic this week, so I hope to be able to share some insights along the way!
Card of the Week

This is a versatile card that has been showing up in the Bant Ramp lists. It can destroy Embercleave, Fires of Invention, Wilderness Reclamation and Witch’s Oven – which are all key cards in their respective deck archetypes. It blocks well as a 4/3, and can buy some time with 4 life when needed. It is also another target for Elspeth Conquers Death recursion.
