Upcoming Releases – 2025

With Aetherdrift released now in MTGArena and still waiting for the metagame to balance out we are going to look at what the 2025 has for us now, this year is packed with new locations a visitation to our favorite Dragon plane, and Three distinct collaborations thanks to Universe Beyond we’ll some of the most iconic characters from Videogames, comics and movies having card form.

Aetherdrift is the first set on the block this year the Ghirapur Grand Prix taking place across several planes of the multiverse, Aetherdrift formally releases on Feb. 14th, 2025.

Heavily vehicle influenced set reaching “Max Speed” is not only about the race but also a key mechanic keyword to play or play against, Our favorite fire girl is partnering up with some unfamiliar faces through the plane and make herself with the maximum prize [car name=”The Aetherspark”].

Apr. 11th, 2025, we get Tarkir Dragonstorm, Dragons took over Tarkir again allying with the Clans or against them, let’s find out what’s the next chapter for our beloved dragons.

We are still far away from spoiler season but the artworks feature the return of our favorite colorless dragon Ugin, The Spirit Dragon, and of course the main 5 Tarkir gangs back but now they are Dragon packed.

One of the most beloved video game franchises in the world is making an appearance on the MTG world Final Fantasy from Square Enix, each Final Fantasy has its own story, characters, visuals and feelings, the first one spanning back from 1987 and the latest entry FFXVI (Final Fantasy 16) in this Universe Beyond set we can expect the most recognized characters and events depicted in the franchise, Cloud Strife and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII are the protagonists of the key visuals for this set so far, we can expect Chocobos, Magic, Engineered Explosives, Political Disarray, Forces beyond our comprehension taking place in MTG format, Release date: June 13th, 2025.

This is our first intro Introduction to the Sothera system and we have art visuals depicting an old seasoned Tezzeret wielding Space mojo, “Find Magic among the stars” is one of the premises of this set, lore wise we might be in for some Universe wide search or quest for Tezzeret to be part of.

Edge of Eternities releases August 8th, 2025.

We already had a Secret Lair collaboration with Marvel, which sold out almost instantly, but this time around later this year we can expect your friendly neighborhood Spiderman making an appearance in MTG card form, Spiderman has always been iconic in each medium it has come to be, Comics, Arts, Movies, Animated Series, its one of the most recognizable Superhero to date.

We can expect the different versions of Spiderman that has come to life in the comics as they have their own unique characteristics and events, but I am hoping a graceful rendition for the three latest Spiderman’s from movies recently shown in Spiderman: No Way Home

And of course the variety of villains and events this franchise has to offer is no joke a wide and vast selection, we are in for a treat so lets wait for the formal release date.

Our most suspected guess for the last entry on Unannounced Universe Beyond set is Spongebob Squarepants, yes you read that right, Spongebob Squarepants is coming in MTG card form

Still waiting for a release date we still might need to wait inline outside The Krusty Krab until it opens door later this year.

Wrapping Up

In terms of balance there’s a clear effort for 50% MTG Unique Lore, and 50% Universe Beyond entries, UUB has been a polarizing experience so far but the difference this year is that UUB is Standard Legal so yes, Sephiroth equipped with Bob’s Sponge Spatula could be a thing in Standard format as well their introduction to other formats.
