Hey everyone! This week is one of my favorite Midweek Magic events in the rotation. It really reminds me of the old days when we’d pile into a car and drive a couple of hours to a Pro Tour Qualifier, back when Block Constructed was one of the premier formats. There are plenty of stories from those road trips that we’ve all agreed should never be told again, but they were always an incredible time.
While this isn’t technically Block Constructed (mostly because Block Constructed doesn’t exist anymore), building with just one set and a core set is about as close as we can get. It gives you a chance to experiment with decks that would never quite make the cut in Standard. With that in mind, I decided to build a handful of themed decks just to have some fun with the format. It is Midweek Magic, after all.
Of course, you’re more than welcome to head into the lab and brew something of your own. There aren’t many articles that apply directly to a format like this, but if you’re looking for a starting point, you can check out this article discussing Standard ideas for the MSH cards.

This is your regular old red burn deck. It’s gone by plenty of names over the years, including Sligh (if you’re ancient), SRB (Stupid Red Burn), and RDW (come on, do I really need to explain that one?).
No matter what you call it, the game plan is the same: deploy cheap, efficient creatures backed up by burn spells that either clear the way or go straight to your opponent’s face. There’s an old saying that there are no wrong threats, only wrong answers. If you’d rather be the one asking the questions, this is the deck for you.
What kind of Marvel event would it be without a deck built around heroes? Fortunately, this one isn’t just here for flavor—it packs a serious punch. At its core, it’s a classic white weenie deck loaded with synergistic creatures and effects that keep making the team bigger.
In other words, get out there and pump up the jams.
On the flip side of the coin, we have the villains. This deck is so evil that even the cards without the Villain typeline are up to no good. After all, what more could a villain ask for than casting Hero's Downfall or just straight-up Stab someone?
If you’re looking to embrace your inner comic book bad guy, this is the deck for you.
These events tend to be filled with creature decks, and if you’ve made it this far in the article you’ve probably noticed that I’m usually recommending them too. This deck, however, is built to prey on that metagame by packing multiple board wipes and making everyone else’s life miserable.
Sometimes the best way to beat a room full of creatures is to make sure none of them get to stick around.
This one’s for those of you who don’t want to burn a pile of wildcards on a Midweek Magic event. It might not be the flashiest deck in the field, but it’s cheap, functional, and more than capable of stealing a few wins.
