Innistrad Midnight Hunt Spoilers: Daily Roundup for September 4, 2021

Spoilers for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Midnight Hunt continue today, and while today seems to be a lower volume day compared to what we’ve seen so far, there are still a lot of previews yet to come. In case you missed them, make sure to check out the previews from yesterday and from day one. Let’s dive in!

A Reminder: Doing Things a Bit Differently

Our Daily Roundup series will be continuing as previews roll out, but we’re going to try formatting things a little bit differently than in the past. Rather than listing all of the cards that are spoiled each day (there’s a very large volume of them), we’re going to break down the mythics, rares, and a selection of other cards that either show off new mechanics, seem impactful for constructed Standard, or are significant in some other way.

Our main spoilers page will still contain all of the spoilers from the set as they are released of course, including the draft commons and uncommons that may be omitted here.

Please let us know what you think of this change! There are a few things changing behind the scenes here at MTGA Zone and we are trying to find the best way to present the spoilers to our readers, so we are very interested in your feedback. You can leave a comment on this article or write us a message on the MTGA Zone Discord to share your thoughts.

A Few Notes:

  • This page is a WIP and will be regularly updated throughout the day as more cards are previewed.
  • Some cards are previewed in languages other than English with no official translation immediately available. Be aware that the exact wording of cards with non-English text may not be perfectly accurate.
  • Not all of the cards that have been revealed are listed on this page. Instead, the most interesting and impactful cards will be highlighted here; please see our main spoilers page to find all of the cards that have been previewed so far.

Without further ado, let’s dive into some spoilers! Cards have been listed alphabetically and categorized by rarity. See below for quick links for your browsing convenience.

Quick Links:

Mythic

Unnatural Growth

  • Card Name: Unnatural Growth
  • Mana Cost: {1}{G}{G}{G}{G}
  • Card Type: Enchantment
  • Rarity: Mythic
  • Card Text:
    At the beginning of each combat, double the power and toughness of each creature you control until end of turn.

A green, enchantment-based Embercleave that doesn’t grant trample. Not too sure about this one in the context of the Standard format – sure, it plays well with trampling creatures but honestly, I’m not sure Mono Green needs the help of a card like this.

Rare

Croaking Counterpart

  • Card Name: Croaking Counterpart
  • Mana Cost: {1}{G}{U}
  • Card Type: Sorcery
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Card Text:
    Create a token that’s a copy of target non-Frog creature, except it’s a 1/1 green Frog.
    Flashback {3}{G}{U}

This card is hilarious, but I don’t think it’s good. Seems like it would have to have a pretty specific creature you would want to be copying, and even then three mana is kind of rough for a 1/1 even with a strong ability.

Sludge Monster

  • Card Name: Sludge Monster
  • Mana Cost: {3}{U}{U}
  • Card Type: Creature – Horror
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Card Text:
    Whenever Sludge Monster enters the battlefield or attacks, put a slime counter on up to one other target creature.
    Non-Horror creatures with slime counters on them lose all abilities and have base power and toughness 2/2.
  • Power/Toughness: 5/5

This card has a neat creature neutralizing ability on it, and I like that it triggers right away when it enters the battlefield. Still, 5 mana is a lot, and once the Sludge Monster leaves the battlefield, the slime counters become meaningless.

Common/Uncommon

Faithful Mending

  • Card Name: Faithful Mending
  • Mana Cost: {W}{U}
  • Card Type: Instant
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Card Text:
    You gain 2 life, draw two cards, then discard two cards.
    Flashback {1}{W}{U}

This seems like it might be a pretty good glue card for graveyard based decks, but I think you really want to be playing it in a deck that needs cards in the graveyard. Like Faithless Looting in Historic, Faithful Mending is card advantage negative since you’re spending a card to get the effect, so you don’t want to play it like a typical draw spell hoping to get ahead on cards.

We’ll be continuing to cover ongoing spoilers for Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, so stay tuned and be sure to check out our full spoilers page in the meantime.
