Hi! My name is Vertyx and I will go over the top finishes of the Magic Online Standard Challenge that took place on the weekend: June 24, 2023. Lets go take a look at all of the interesting decks people chose to register this weekend!
Top 8 Decks
Looks like some familiar decks started appearing again while also pushing out Esper Legends! Esper had a big boom post bans but people quickly adapted and now the numbers are way lower than they were 2 weeks ago. We got a bunch of returning older decks in this top 8 so lets go take a look at them.
The top 8 consists of 1 copy of Orzhov Midrange, 1 copy of Mono-Red Aggro, 2 copies of Azorius Soldiers, 1 copy of Mono-Black Midrange, 1 copy of Domain Ramp, 1 copy of Selesnya Enchantments and 1 copy of Mono-Blue Tempo. Lets go take a look at the decklists!

The 1st place was taken down with Orzhov Midrange by KarnageKardsENT!
This pilot has been doing very well with this deck putting up a top 8 spot a lot of times recently! The decks idea is to control the board with removal which white is very good in doing either with spells or planeswalkers! This gameplan is suported with creatures that produce aditional value either it being powerfull abilities or replacing themselves! The reason this deck plays black is Breach The Multiverse as a way to win the game faster than with 1/1 creatures!
Creatures (19)
Sorceries (2)
60 Cards

Sideboard
15 Cards

The 2nd place was taken down with Mono-Red Aggro by LucasG1ggs! This deck has also been on the downswing like Esper Legends after the initial sucess post bans. The numbers have been getting way lower but this pilot managed to make it into the finals. This name might be familiar to some of you because they also had multiple challenge top 8s in the last month!
The decklist is very straightforward going all into the finish the opponent as fast as possible gameplan! It does that with a lot of cheap spells like Monastery Swiftspear and Play with Fire which help them in finishing the opponent before they can even answer them!
Planeswalkers (1)
Creatures (26)
Instants (7)
Lands (23)
60 Cards
$177.12
Sideboard
15 Cards
$31.07
3rd place was conquered with Azorius Soldiers by Mogged!
There are more ways to build this deck and this pilot chose to be more low to the ground with a lot of interaction and disruption. This decks most expensive creature is only 3 mana with the majority of cards costing only 2 or even 1 mana!
It wants to put a lot of power early onto the battlefield and then interact with the opponent while attacking them every turn before they lose. This gameplan is supported with flash creatures like Zephyr Sentinel or Resolute Reinforcements and the core interaction spells (Make Disappear or Invasion of Gobakhan).
Creatures (30)
Lands (23)
60 Cards
$171.06
Sideboard
15 Cards
$28.37
The 4th place was also taken down with Azorius Soldiers this time by orantspro!
This pilot chose a slightly different version of the deck so lets go take a look at it! This version wants to be even faster than the previous one. It plays more one drops to be more faster and so it can also get Knight-Errant of Eos onto the battlefield as soon as possible! This card can produce a lot of advantage and it helps the deck never run out of gas!
Creatures (18)
Sorceries (2)
60 Cards
$460.9
Sideboard
15 Cards
$67.01
The 5th place was taken down with Mono-Black Midrange piloted by FerMTG!
This deck plays all of the strong black creatures the format has (for example Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, Graveyard Trespasser or Phyrexian Fleshgorger)! this strong midrange plan is then supported by removal and disruption (for example Liliana of the veil, Go for the throat and Gix's Command)! A strong part of the deck is that its almost never going to get color screwed since its mono-colored with only 3 Mishra's Foundry!
Creatures (14)

Lands (26)
60 Cards
$495.48
Sideboard
15 Cards
$55.97
The 6th place was took down with Domain Ramp by _Shatun_!
An old returning deck that has been putting up less numbers than it used to before the bans. Its gameplan is quite simple. It wants to ramp with cards like Invasion of Zendikar and also control the board with cards like Leyline Binding at the same time. When it gets to enough mana the deck then becomes able to cast its threats (Atraxa, Grand Unifier and Etali, Primal Conqueror) which should be able to finish the game fast!
Creatures (21)
Sorceries (4)
Enchantments (15)
Lands (20)
60 Cards
$192.58
Sideboard
15 Cards
$86.85
7th place was taken down with Selesnya Enchantments by J0SE! This deck has been putting up a few top 8s here and there and has been proving its spot in the metagame!
This deck wants to get all the value from its cards that are mostly enchantments! All of its creatures interact with enchantments in some way either it be putting counters on creatures (Generous Visitor, Calix, Guided by Fate) making enchantments cheaper (Jukai Naturalist) or being strong threats on their own (Kami of Transience or Katilda, Dawnhart Martyr).
The deck also plays other enchantments that provide value in some way (Teachings of the Kirin, The Restoration of Eiganjo) or even strong threats (Hallowed Haunting)! Overall a very synergistic deck that takes a good use of all of its cards!
Instants (25)
Sorceries (2)

60 Cards
$31.3
Sideboard
15 Cards
$16.55
The last 8th place was taken down with Mono-Blue Tempo by Barger88! This deck is probably familiar to a lot of people that have been playing Standard for a while now.
This deck wants to interact with the opponent a lot! Its gameplan is to control the opponent as much as possible with a lot of counterspells (Spell Pierce, Negate, Make Disappear, Essence Scatter)! If it gets out of cards it has strong ways to refuel all of them even being instant speed (for example Thirst for Discovery and Flow of Knowledge).
When it comes to closing the game, this deck plays big threats like Haughty Djinn and Tolarian Terror but they usually cast it later in the game so they can hold up interaction with it (from the deck’s name it wants to play tempo so its main way of winning is sticking one or two creatures and then attacking every turn while countering relevant spells before the opponent loses).
That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed the article and see you soon!
