Code back here, with another Top8 Standard format analysis, I approach these decklists with their advantages and metagame opportunities and a lousy counterspell joke here and there, in this particular note Regional Championship Qualifier 2-slot Seymour Indiana at Castle Games lets check what the results say.
5th – 8th
Isaac Levy with Temur Otters, 7 shock spells to clear nuisances and the main character Stormchaser's Talent creating otters and returning one spell to hand and taking recursion advantage, once Talent reaches level 3 this deck shoots spells left and right and a single Song of Totentanz gives haste to all the incoming critters, this is by far one of my favorite decks today to make an appearance due to its simple strategy and piloting maneuvers.
Nathan’s Esper Pixie Typical, Stormchaser's Talent into the fray with hand discard and Nurturing Pixie returning permanents for maximum value play, I can hear miles away a meme saying -“…and another one”, so this deck specializes in returning permanents to hand to be played again… and again… and again you get it, and swiftly deals with problems by discarding them early on.
Austin’s Dimir Bounce much similar to our previous Pixies is the lack of white and full focus on the early plays, Floodpits Drowner 4 copies for maximum effectiveness of diligent removal, Nowhere to Run gets rid of the trendy Ward abilities, this deck is all about the early plays and attrition to win from mid to late game.
Michael’s Azorius Control for a proper control deck making an appearance, its game is all about diminishing the early turns Get Lost, Destroy Evil, Not on my watch, and later on, Horned Loch-Whale a Flash Whale makes its way through and difficult to deal with.
Chandler’s Esper Pixie focuses more on Spiteful Hexmage triggering another enchant into the battlefield and Pixies bouncing it off and buffing the Hexmage, your typical control discard and removal with a side salad of Kaito, Bane of Nightmares putting pressure into the battlefield
Matt’s Dimir focuses more into 4 copies of Floodpits Drowner and This Town aint big enough, as your usual Stormchaser's Talent making its way through board wipes you might get rid of one or two but its rare to do an enchant board wipe, and yes we all miss Farewell but reality is winning is all about keep calm one step at a time with this deck Fear of Isolation returning Floodpits to hand and again stunning creatures and with Nowhere to run in play is easier to stun everyone and going in turn by turn with small damages until success.
I wanted to approach a different Top8 from what I’ve been doing lately with several mono red taking the scene but this is another reality of Bue being present and dominating the meta gameplay without the need of counterspells even though I shiver every time I see a Three steps ahead but anyway, also don’t forget in here there is a Selesnya token deck that in the near future might be up in rank.
May your spells never be countered, Code is out
