Standard Meta Report – a Postmetagame insight

Metagame Challenge 2025 insights, featured decklists of new brews hitting the Metagame Challenge 2025

Hey peops Code back here, we are in here today for a Postmetagame challenge insight pretty much in due by now, in this article we are going to be covering some newly found contenders arising in the standard scene which I particularly found interesting during the latest standard metagame challenge held during the first days of 2025.

A few shocking contenders are the newly arisen Omniscience control is basically an enchant reanimator and the impactful switch monored toward a Gruul approach, and a Melira brew that caught me off guard but it was interesting piloting through these matches.

Omniscience Control

This deck focus primarily in reanimating Omniscience with Abuelo's Awakening, so yeah wrap around the idea of what do against turn 4 Omniscience is basically nothing but as this deck loses options to play getting the Omniscience into play it focuses on playing Invasion of Arcavios now this is the interesting part you can now play whatever you look for with Invasion of Arcavios and basically either return every non-land non-token with Season of Weaving and wipe tokens with Temporary Lockdown or protect your stack with Grand Abolisher, this deck has a few stages setting up the Abuelo's Awakening, and after that you either bore your opponent to death or a swiftkill with Kitsa, Otterball Elite.

Don’t let this deck trick you into thinking its easy to deal with, the first few turns are critical to keep the attrition on your side so this decks responds to you and not you responding to Omniscience, this might be the only current situation where I approve the use of counterspells but that would mean blue against blue I have no problems with that.

Boros Aggro

Half the hateful gang is here Monastery Swiftspear, Hired Claw and Slickshot Show-Off I think the gang went to a plane with a no Mice policy, you know how this goes down, the first three turns is all about a coin one side anger and the other pure lightning, this deck specialices in bringing critters out filled with anger issues dealing tons of damage and lightning spells decimating your opponents line of defense as Slickshot Show-Off gets pumped from ditching spells left and right, the main difference from this deck to a mono red approach is the ability to protect your creatures with Boros Charm and Lightning Helix bringing lifegain to the table.

Falcon Gambit

Dimir but pure cunning power, what this deck wants to achieve is diminish every capacity the opponent has until it can play Virtue of Knowledge and then Greed's Gambit comes into play drawing for six and six batcritters 2/1 ready for an airstrike decimating combat, it deals in the early turns playing safe just eliminating opponents creatures with Nowhere to Run and little of topdecking tweaks Aether Channeler has to offer.

I’ll be giving this deck a walkthrough during the weekend and report next week results.

Melira Selesnya Aggro

This match caught me offguard as it was the first time me agaisnt a turn two Melira, The Living Cure hits play and my head racing through what this deck could play benefiting from it, until Collector's Cage come into play and then it hit me, this deck is going to trigger the Cage into bringing the hideaway threat and with Melira in effect the cage is revived and rinse and repeat as well already dealing with the Cage conditions critters hitting your opponent for threat attention, I really liked playing against this deck very original very demure and overall I was on the edge of my seat piloting through it, I ended up winning by a hair with a Mono White token brew, but this Melira deck is scary don’t let it fool you, it has a poweful sideboard to respond to matches so be wary.

Final Thoughts

The Metagame challenge was definitely a new breath experience with new brews around until the turn 4 Omniscience hits play and all of your love for MTG fades away and you start wondering we you are even there in the first place, but don’t worry turn 4 Omniscience is temporary, I am keeping an eye for new brews on Breach the Multiverse if you happen to see a cool one send it throug our Discord and lets talk it out.

Also there are a couple of brews I want to talk about Kairi and Hidetsugu combos are fun, and Invasion of Tolvada reanimating six mana Chandras are always fun.

Standard is still full of your typical Las Vegas 2024 contenders with Dimir Tempo still heavily present and monored still pillaging the Higher ranks on MTGArena that’s why always new brews caught my eye, tend to be a new life into the Metagame, and I am still waiting who is going to capitalize on Scavenging Ooze with discard Omniscience on the rise.
