Greetings, Ladies, Gentlemen and Turtles… -Wait… , -Yes!, that’s right Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles finally arrived in card form and in this analysis review we will explore the current metagame state regarding Standard constructed format, so diving in current Metagame is recovering from the Izzet Plague quite the good years for Izzet on Standard shifting from Mono red to Izzet Vivi Cauldron and now it’s here Izzet Lesson and Izzet Endurance.
Current Metagame
Izzet Lessons
Izzet Lessons is Top 11% Meta Share and considered a Tier 1 deck, it features the lovely Gran-Gran, paired with 7 lessons cards, Gran-gran serves as a draw option when tapped, and cheaps card costs when Lessons are in graveyard, this deck is a recursion engine with a machine trigger on discard having Monument to Endurance have options into generating treasure, drawing more cards or bringing your opponent life total down.
A fresh take on Simic being heavily present on the meta with a prominent 9% Meta share, a fast aggro deck, this deck pumps out Mana dorks like its no joke, and Badgermole Cub is either a great mana source or a big focus target for removal, with plenty of Mana Nature's Rythm is a really cool card to basically play anything from deck to play, and having a Harmonize option to it, even with the board wipes, that card in graveyard is a menace, this deck puts pressure with early Ouroboroid or Quantum Riddler in play, and Leatherhead, Swamp Stalker being a great removal for artifacts or enchants in play, overall this is a great deck from start to finish, maybe weak to a fast discard mono black deck, but nonetheless this deck is quite prominent in the scene now, and with Izzet again on the ban prediction future, this deck is more than future proof to be present for a while.
Dimir Midrange excels at reducing opponents opportunities, Dream Beavers gives some Scry options either dodge or accept the topdeck, Spyglass Siren a map token for further improvement of topdecking, Floodpits Drowner stuns creatures and drown them again into the opponents deck, Kaito, Bane of Nightmares is a tough walker to deal with as he first enters the battlefield and protects himself until the next turn, and could become a potent attacker in the later turns. this deck basically runs into turtle mode with good counterspell pacing (even tho I hate counterspells) they come perfectly in clutch either early game or late game where power reduces from each side of the battlefield.
Another rendition on the Badgermole Cub proving its worth, plenty of mana dorks and Landfall triggers happening even the little Chocobo –Sazh's Chocobo gets more power each time a land hits play, Innkeeper's Talent helps with Hexproof effects and Earthbender Ascension with a trample effect so no chump blocking is happening, Bristly Bill, Spine Sower with the doubling counter effect, a strong option to make bigger threats and Icetill Explorer bringing more land options into the table, this deck emphasize into being the threat even if they try to remove everything it outruns removal and control options.
Tri colored, Red, White, and Blue, Jeskai the powerhouse with Imposing punching control,Spell Snare, Three Steps Ahead, Get Lost, Seam Rip, No More Lies is part of the control effects for this deck to diminish the opponents theme of play, and turtle the match into defense mode deep into the late game guaranteeing a chance for Jeskai Revelation resolve and start packing a punch into a win, Rest in Peace will clear out Lessons and Reanimator decks, while Stock Up and Consult the Star Charts help with the top decking efficiency looking for the right card.
Golgari splashed with blue, Sultai Reanimator, the main protagonist is Superior Spider-Man that is able to take the form a creature in the graveyard, and beginning with Ardyn, The Usurper will revive another creature during beginning of combat, and that will bring, Bringer of the Last Gift and you will end up with two medium sized creature capable of dealing 9 damage a turn, and paired up with the lord elementals from Lorwyn with evoke effects, this deck manouvers artifacts and enchantments controls, whilst being a threat early.
this is the current top tier for Standard Bo3 constructed format at the moment, it sits in a better shape than a few months ago where everything was either Izzet or a counter Izzet deck, since Avatar set came it has been slowly changing the meta from Izzet despite the strong pressence of Lessons archetype it brought also a bending archetype to match to enter tier1 scene, while reanimator is still present is alot more healthier, though currently mono colors aren’t as strong, -Mono black in particular is the underdog in the current Meta, trying to catch up with, but going bi color seems to be norm for time being there’s a lot of mana fixing, sinergies and efficiency, – I have been trying to develop my own Mono white token aggro but its currently really hard to either beat Jeskai Revelation control, and Gran-Gran being so efficient into developing their board, mono red on the other hand is capable but predictable so the scene right now is going multicolored or die trying.
