The Immortal Sun

The Immortal Sun Historic Festival Event Guide and Best Decklists

This guide will contain everything you need to know about the Festival: The Immortal Sun Historic event, including the details, banned card list, rewards, and our exclusive sample decklists.

Hey everyone! It’s time for another festival so I’m here to hook you up with everything you need to know about it. I may have gotten a little too jolly at a real life festival last night, but I can rally to help you figure out the best strategies for speed running this event.

We’ll start off with what a The Immortal Sun Historic Event is. It’s where both players have an emblem that works exactly like The Immortal Sun but without shutting down Planeswalkers. That means you draw an extra card every turn, spells cost one colorless mana less, and creatures you control get +1+1.

For those of you unfamiliar with Historic, there are plenty of non-interactive decks that functionally (and in some cases literally) end the game on turn three or four. That means the emblem isn’t really worth building around compared to the value it provides making those existing decks better than they already are. I’ll be going through which ones I recommend for the event, but almost any top tier historic deck is viable.

If you’re not looking to craft an entire historic deck just to get through a festival, I whipped up a budget deck with just commons and uncommons to help get you through.

Yeah, yeah, I’m almost to the decklists… Just some event info and then you can click your buttons.

Eggs Combo

This gains a ton off of the emblem reducing spells by a colorless mana. Everything in this deck is colorless and the whole point of it is to chain a bunch of reduced cost artifacts. Your Chromatic Spheres and Chromatic Stars come down for free and you can play Semblance Anvil on turn two to potentially go off that early.

Once you get down a Mystic Forge you start flying through your deck with Aetherflux Reservoir gaining you a pile of life before blasting them in the face.

Discover

Anyone who has been playing Historic lately knows about this deck. Everyone already knows bans are incoming so you might as well enjoy it while you can.

You just get a discover creature to stick to get the party started. Eventually you Eldritch Evolution for Doomskar Titan to give your newly acquired dino pile haste and crash in for the victory.

It really doesn’t need any changes for this event because it gains the ability to go off a turn early even without needing to make a treasure. If you do make the treasure, you can now cast Pantlaza, Sun-Favored on turn 3 to go off as well. It even makes it much easier to cast Trumpeting Carnosaur on a reasonable turn if it comes down to that.

Belcher

Another great way to ignore what your opponent is doing and blast them into oblivion a turn earlier than expected. One of the downsides is if you run into the Geist of Saint Traft scam deck, they might have Leyline of Sanctity to lock you out.

Dredge

This one actually takes advantage of all three parts of the emblem. You get to cast turn one Founding the Third Path into Glimpse the Unthinkable to start going off, then the +1/+1 actually matters when your undead army rises from the grave.

Budget Red Deck Wins

This one is really taking advantage of the emblem. You have Gingerbrute who is a free 2/2 haste along with a pile of cheap token makers in Dragon Fodder, Forbidden Friendship, Rally at the Hornburg, and Ral's Reinforcements. They all cost one mana and give you two 2/2s some of which have haste.

That’s going to put a ridiculous amount of pressure on them before you light up their face with a variety of Lightning Bolts
