Hey everyone! Sit back and picture this scenario. You’re on a road trip to a random city with your best friends. The car is packed with energy drinks, snacks, and most importantly a pile of sarcasm. Somewhere in that car are a bunch of Magic decks as you are on your way to a PTQ (Pro Tour Qualifier for those of you who aren’t that old) to play some block constructed for your chance to get on the tour. Those weekends were so fun that I would still go on the trips even after I was qualified and these Midweek Magic formats are a great way to look back at those times.
This week it is going to be Foundations + Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is similar to the old block constructed formats as you have to build a deck only from the sets that are included.
One of the other great things about these events is that WotC has typically made them all access. This makes sense because it’s early in the format and people don’t want to blow all of their wildcards trying stuff out. It will say you don’t have the cards when you import, but you should be able to select it when you go to the event. Of course, I’m telling you this so I fully expect them to call the audible to make me look foolish.
Iโll keep the babbling short and get to some deck lists for you.

Aggressive burn decks tend to get the job done quickly in these unsolved formats. That is especially true during that first day when a lot of people are theory crafting.
To be fair, I mostly just wanted an excuse to play Ghalta, Primal Hunger. It can also go over the top of the small creature decks that make up the majority of Midweek Magic.
Did someone say these formats are packed with creature decks? This is another great way to answer that. Having a pile of sweepers backed by counters is a tried and true method to handle that situation.
