Kaldheim Spoilers January 8, 2021

Kaldheim spoiler season is kicking off into full gear starting today following on from yesterday’s debut stream. We will see cards from up to 18 sources, starting from rock band In Heart’s Wake to Magic Hall of Famer Seth Manfield. The expansion looks to have a ton of stuff packed into it so far, and we can’t wait to see what it entails!

As always, we will keep this post throughout the day as the cards are revealed according to the schedule, as well as any other relevant information such as the full artwork where available.

Two more Foretell cards from the set, and the counterspell one is at least interesting enough to consider it for Standard.

Menace

Whenever an opponent sacrifices a nontoken permanent or discards a permanent card, you can put this card from your graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.

Tergrid’s Lantern

{T}: Target player loses 3 life unless they sacrifice a nonland permanent or discard a card.

Enchantment – Saga

I: Destroy target land.
II: Put target land from a graveyard on the battlefield under your control.
III: Choose target opponent. If they control less lands than you, create 4/4 Warrior Troll creature tokens with reach equal to the difference in lands.

Snow Sorcery

Choose target creature that you control and target creature you don’t control. If you control 3 or more snow permanents, the creature you control gains +1/+0 and indestructible until end of turn. Then the creatures fight.

Casting the second spell of each turn looks to be the theme of the Orzhov archetype strangely enough. The card seems pretty good for limited even if you can activate it at least once for some juicy card advantage.

The Simic Mythic of the set, and for now we reserve the judgement that it is as broken as Oko or Uro.

Elves getting more support is always good news for the fans, though the card looks to be more of a slower value engine.

The Giant tribal Payoff card, and Standard has a solid lineup already between red, white and green. Blue also gets a share of Giant cards in Kaldheim also, like Giant’s Grasp and Giant’s Amulet below. Let’s see if we can pull a decent deck together!

Definitely check out the source video as the band sings out the card! The card itself is another flexible card that you will most of the time want to cast it for five mana in limited. Giant Wizard is a pretty cool creature type combination.

Snow Enchantment – Aura

Enchant land

Enchanted land becomes a Snow Land and when enchanted land is
tapped for mana, its controller adds an additional mana of any color.

This card could be quite useful in limited since it effectively adds two additional Snow Permanents for you. We have already seen cards like Frost Bite that cares about the amount you have.

Our token Mythic Dragon for the set, adding to the growing list of playable Dragons in Historic! Sarkhan, Fireblood just gets better and better. Even for Standard it could be decent, since it can impact the board as soon as it comes down.

Giving two extra mana to leave up during combat means more mana for stuff like Embercleave or if you need to protect it with another spell such as Heroic Intervention, it provides decent value.
