- Collection: Boosters from the store or rewards, The Lord of the Rings War Premier Draft, or craft them using Wildcards.
- Legality: The set will be legal in Alchemy and Historic.
- Universes Beyond: Arriving in 2023, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth set combines the gameplay of Magic: The Gathering with the epic high fantasy novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. The cards in this set feature the triangular holofoil stamp of non-canon cards.
- Gandalf, Gollum, Frodo, Aragorn – the characters you know will immerse you in Middle-earth as you battle for The One Ring scheme with Saruman, or journey to the heights of Mount Doom. This is a standalone set that is designed to be drafted, coming to tabletop, Magic Online, and MTG Arena – plus four Commander decks and special Secret Lair drops.
- Like all Universes Beyond products, the set will not be legal in Standard, but will be legal for Modern and Historic play. This way, it provides the greatest opportunity for the most people to experience this beloved world while still holding Standard as its own space. While the set isn’t focused on Modern like a Modern Horizons set might be, Wizards wanted to give as many players the opportunity to play with these cards and enjoy them.
- Similar to Alchemy Horizons: Baldur’s Gate, it will be legal for Alchemy and Historic play and have its own Mastery. However, the cards will remain the same as on tabletop and MTG Arena, as these cards were designed for 1v1 play.
- The set will receive the same support as a full release, including a preorder, Mastery Pass, and cosmetics.
- Plus, some of this incredible artwork deserves more than just one card and expands to many more with new borderless scene cards that beautifully capture the story—such as the Battle of Pelennor Fields outside of Gondor.

The Ring
- Your Ring-bearer is legendary and can’t be blocked by creatures with greater power.
- Whenever your Ring-bearer attacks, draw a card, then discard a card.
- Whenever your Ring-bearer becomes blocked by a creature, that creature’s controller sacrifices it at end of combat.
- Whenever your Ring-bearer deals combat damage to a player, each opponent loses 3 life.
The Ring Tempts You
As the Ring tempts you, you get an emblem named The Ring if you don’t have one. Then your emblem gains its next ability and you choose a creature you control to become or remain your Ring-bearer.
- The Ring can tempt you even if you don’t control a creature.
- The Ring gains its abilities in order from top to bottom.
- Once it gains an ability, it has that ability for the rest of the game.
- Each time the Ring tempts you, you must choose a creature if you control one.
- Each player can have only one emblem named The Ring and only one Ring-bearer at a time.
